Instantly Give Your Home a Facelift Without Spending a Dime

If you notice that you haven’t given your home any sort of love and energy lately, and you would love to bring some life into it without spending a ton of money, here are 10 ways to instantly give your home a facelift without spending a dime.

1 - Fold those linens

You know that crazy linen closet you have that ends up in shambles because those fitted sheets never seem to wanna lay flat, which makes everything else not wanna lay flat? If you take about an hour out of your day to refold everything nicely, when you open the doors to your linen closet and see straight lines, it is probably one of the most satisfying feelings ever — and super underrated.

2 - Swap out photos and artworks

This is probably one of the simplest and funnest ways to refresh your home. Take out those old photos and replace them with newer ones (or vice versa). Pull out that art you bought but never hung and swap it with the stuff that’s always hanging. Whenever you see them, you’ll think you’re in an entirely new house.

3 - Give your garden some attention

Put on your messy pants, some sneakers, some gloves, and rake up those dead leaves. Tend to your dying flowers. Trim some of those bushes. And if you have a gardener that does all those things already, maybe move some planters around, find the perfect spots for sun loving and shade loving plants.

4 - Declutter

Probably the easiest ways to refresh your home is to declutter. Throw away garbage, donate the things you don’t use or haven’t touched in a year, clean off those shelves and countertops. If it’s not supposed to be there, find the place it belongs or simply get rid of it. Our countertops and shelves typically end up housing the stuff we don’t wanna put away immediately.

5 - Bring some of the outdoors inside

Propagating is actually not too difficult and can be super fun. Just go outside to your yard and find some plants that are thriving in the shade, those are typically the ones you can bring inside without much maintenance.

6 - Swap out blankets in high use

We all have that blanket that stays on the couch because we use it or our kids use it all the time. If you tend to have one universal blanket that everyone uses, maybe stash it away in your now clean linen closet and grab one you haven’t used in a while. We all buy so many blankets, let’s use ‘em.

7 - Organize

This is another really simple way to bring some new life to your home. Pull open that junk drawer and get to tossing and organizing. Take a look at your bookcase and organize by height, by alphabet, or my favorite by spine color. Clear the junk off your desk, and put everything where it belongs so your pens and highlighters are easily accessible.

8 - Hide unsightly cords

This is actually something I didn’t start doing until later in life. I didn’t even realize it was a thing to do until I started noticing that beautiful stylized photos magically never had any cords in them. Check out this post from Home Depot on hiding cords with a little bit of elbow grease.

9 - Rearrange some furniture

Feng shui is a thing for a reason. You just need an awareness of where the light is, when you’ve overstuffed an area with clutter, keeping things airy, blocked pathways and spaces, and a whole slew of other things that effect the energy in your home.

10 - Clean the stuff that never gets cleaned

I’m talking — refrigerator (in and out), ceiling (get those cobwebs), windows, floors, hidden corners, under the couch, in the couch, under the sink, high touch points (doorknobs, doorframes, banisters, wall corners, drawers, cabinets), inside the oven, inside cabinets, shelves, picture frames, and anywhere dust collects. It might not seem like it, but this makes a huge difference to your energy. The cleaner your home, the cleaner you will feel.
