These are small original artworks ranging from 4" to 6", sometimes even tinier. I started making these as a way to practice releasing tension in my brushstrokes and trust myself more. By setting a timer for 20 or 30 minutes, I take away any time for overthinking, second guessing, or erasing. All that's left is the original spark of creation, completely original and unfettered. I wanted to paint with the intention of having compassion for both myself and the sometimes uncomfortable and slow process of making things. Sometimes things don't always go exactly as planned, but often I've found that the bumpy and unexpected roads are the best ones.
I like to choose objects we interact with all the time, like coffee mugs, dishes, flowers, and food. The kitchen is the place where we often spend our time nourishing our bodies and cleaning the objects that we use to help us feed ourselves: plates, cups, bowls. I like to think these daily paintings encourage self love and compassion both in the creation process and in the subject matter.
