I can't really explain what it is that makes me choose the photo to paint from. It's a combination of composition within the photo, maybe I like the colors, maybe it was an accident or luck. Maybe that photo perfectly mirrored what I felt that day and I can remember exactly what I thought in that moment.
Each day in Santa Cruz was different than the last. Some days the sand was warm, others cool. Some days the sky was clear, others completely covered in clouds. Some days were blanketed in bright and happy colors, others were a little mellow and seemed kind of gray. There's no one way to describe Santa Cruz, I think in some ways what you see is what you feel at that moment. Never the same.
