I get to go to Santa Cruz often, that's one of the perks of living in the Bay Area; the beach is only a 30 minute drive away. The photos in this series were taken using my DSLR and my iPhone.
When I uploaded the photos to my computer, they came out disappointingly clear and sharp. Everything was so crisp and it made me mad. I think it has something to do with my nearsighted vision - why the photos I took weren't resonating with me. I typically see things in a blurry context. The feeling of being at the beach, isn't clear or sharp at all for me. Hazy would be a great word to describe the bright sunlight that cuts through everything, the feeling of the sunscreen covering your skin, a barrier.
That's what this series is about. There's a sweaty layer covering everything : hands, bags, sunglasses, hair. It's funny to think, you could be wearing the skimpiest bathing suit, and yet still not be completely naked. The dirt, the sand, the water, the sunscreen, the sweat. It covers everything. It's all a haze.
